Pat Ford

Pat Ford

Mr. Pat Ford was the 'Father' of St. Paul's PACE and a philanthropic leader in San Diego County. His leadership in bringing PACE to St. Paul's and San Diego seniors was unparalleled. A donor for almost thirty years and Board Emeritus of St. Paul's PACE, Pat was a champion for seniors in our community. "I remember the day I mentioned to the St. Paul's Senior Services CEO that we had to bring the Program of All Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) to San Diego in 1998", Pat said "This is a compelling health and social services program that is working for seniors in other parts of the country and California. Low-income, frail San Diego seniors need PACE."

In 1992, Pat created a Charitable Remainder Trust (CRT) to benefit three charitable organizations, including St. Paul's Senior Services.

"Not only am I able to be philanthropic with my appreciated assets, CRTs are also good tax planning," Pat said "I sold several properties through the years, I stood to pay quite a bit in capital gain taxes. I placed the proceeds from the sale into a CRT to avoid the taxes. Instead, I set up the CRT to provide me with an annual 6% return based on the value of the assets. This helps me cover my cost of living expenses. The Charitable Remainder Trust was the best financial instrument to plan my gifts and leave a legacy."

Pat passed away peacefully in his home in 2018, and his legacy lives on today at St. Paul's Senior Services.
